Icecap Expedition spring '08. We're currently finalising teams for our full, coast-to-coast Greenland crossing. There look to be 2 guided teams skiing and a further one kiting. If you would be interested in joining one of these teams, please contact us as soon as possible.

East Greenland by Expedition Yacht. In 2008, we're launching a major new expedition in the short window when it's possible to navigate the waters of arctic East Greenland. On the comfortable 60 ft. yacht Aurora, we'll set sail from Iceland with everything needed for a completely self-sufficient expedition to the ultra remote and uninhabited coast of Arctic East Greenland. Making landfall, we'll have the chance to explore the coastal mountains and kayaks will be carried to venture into the fjords. More info here.

New Expeditions on the way! At GES, we're very passionate about bringing adventure to the fore in Greenland - whether that be following in Nansen's footsteps on a full, coast-to-coast crossing (instead of flying high onto the Icecap by helicopter), driving dogsleds to make a new route on some remote peak, or on any of our other projects. Keep a look-out for the new 2008 trips as they appear.

Icecap Expedition Update. The teams are now all off the Ice. Pat Falvey and his Irish Beyond Endurance team, together with the GES expedition, have now successfully reached the West Coast after battling notably bad conditions. Well done! A third independent team travelling to a point near Ilulissat worked hard to push on, calling for a food drop a short way from the finish line. In a dramatic turn of events, one of the three team members took a crevasse fall and was rescued very efficiently by his team mates. Luckily he wasn't hurt but the loss of some essential equipment dictated an early lift within a short distance of land.

|
Summer Icecap Crossings. More teams set out from the east coast near Ammassalik in early August, bound for Kangerlussuaq in East Greenland. It's a truly international group with members from the UK, the US, Belgium and Ireland, including the esteemed Irish mountaineers Pat Flavey and Clare O'Leary. They've found it tough going but have made steady progress and are expected to make landfall in West Greenland within the next couple of weeks. Read dispatches from Pat's tem here.

Icecap Crossings - teams underway! It's a busy season for GES on the icecap with 6 teams attempting crossings this spring. GES is providing logistics for 4 of these (one of which is a crossing with dog sleds for remowned Russian adventurer Fedor Konyukov), the other two are guided icecap crossings. Most teams are now on the ice and progressing well. Click here for updates on the teams' progress!

Iceberg Climbing on the West Coast Quite possibly a suicidal undertaking when afloat in the open sea, when 'bergs ground on the sea bed and subsequently freeze into the sea ice, some possibilities for climbing open up. Next week, much of the guiding team will be climbing one such iceberg for Japanese TV. Watch this space for photos!
