Jon has been exploring places in the Arctic for 10 years, starting out at an impressionable age on a long expedition to Spitsbergen in the High Arctic. He was immediately struck by the Arctic and soon realised that living in these environments was something he enjoyed hugely – it was clear that he would be back. Soon afterwards, he organised a winter crossing of Spitsbergen before discovering Greenland during a mountaineering expedition five years ago. Here the combination of incredible Arctic scenery, world-class expedition objectives and the area’s remarkable culture impressed him so much that he returned time and again, building up a deep knowledge of the Greenland and its people. Today his interests lie in new and unusual places and objectives, and he is excited by finding new ways to do things. He also has an interest in Arctic history and likes to incorporate this into his trips. His experience allows him to travel elsewhere too – he recently worked as a guide on a North Pole expedition.
Jon has also worked in several countries oversees as an Exploration Geologist. Another area of interest is climate change and he studied permafrost degradation in the Swiss Alps. He currently lives with his partner in Penarth, South Wales where he is also a member of the crew at Penarth Lifeboat Station.
