PIRHUK (Peer-hook) Of the many Greenlandic words for snow, Pirhuk translates as light/soft snow flakes.
Pirhuk - Greenland Expedition Specialists encompasses a small team of dedicated expedition climbers, skiers, kayakers and local Inuit hunters - a group of friends brought together by a deep love and knowledge of Greenland and the wildly beautiful places that can be found there. It's this experience, borne of spending a life amongst the Fjordlands, or spending season after season pulling sleds up glaciers that may or may not lead to that dream peak, that forms the foundation of our outfit. Leading an expedition or organising the support for an independent expedition isn't just work for us, but a passion too.
Kulusuk, situated in the outer fjords of the East Coast of Greenland, is a natural place from which we can launch expeditions all over the country; it's the ancestral home of some of the team a home-from-home to the rest.
We return south to the mountains of Europe over the dark months of winter to work on plans for the next season (and enjoy some powder skiing and climbing!). Communications links within Greenland are sometimes unstable so most of our admin and expedition comms are run from there. However, with the arrival of ADSL fast internet connection in Kulusuk, don't be suprised if you hear howling huskies when you phone us on the internet phone!
We look forwards to helping you experience Greenland first-hand.
Season after season, expedition after expedition, our equipment takes some serious abuse. Out on a trip is the last place you want gear to fail on you. The Pirhuk team count on Scarpa footwear, Grivel climbing equipment and Rab clothing to undertake all our trips.
